Decoding Courier Tracking
Understand what your shipment status actually means.
After booking a courier, the first thing we all do is obsessively check the tracking link! While live tracking provides great peace of mind, the logistics industry uses specific technical terms that can sometimes confuse customers.
At Sona Packers And Movers Courier Wing, we believe in keeping our clients fully informed. If you are tracking your parcel and wondering what the current status means, here are the 5 most common tracking terms decoded for you:
1. In Transit (Or 'Dispatched')
This is the most common status. It simply means your parcel is currently on the move between two major sorting hubs or cities. It is not out for final delivery yet, so there is no need to wait by the door just yet!
2. Out for Delivery (OFD)
Great news! The parcel has reached the final local delivery branch and has been handed over to the delivery executive. This means your package will arrive today. Keep your mobile phone accessible and the ringer on!
3. RTO (Return to Origin)
This is a critical status. It means the delivery failed (usually after 3 attempts) because the address was wrong, or the receiver was constantly unavailable. The parcel is now being sent back to the sender. If you see this, contact your courier support immediately to stop the return process.
4. ODA (Out of Delivery Area)
If you see this status, it means the destination pin code is in a remote or village area where daily deliveries don't happen. The company will deliver the parcel, but it may take an extra 2 to 3 days depending on their local partner's schedule.
5. Exception / Held at Hub
An 'Exception' means the standard delivery process has been interrupted. This could be due to a damaged box, missing paperwork (like e-way bills), or extreme weather conditions. The logistics team will resolve it before it moves forward.
